Matt has extensive experience in matters of trademark, copyright, Internet, and software law, representing clients in the fields of software, scientific instrumentation, apparel, and Internet-based services. As an experienced trademark attorney in the Boston area, he regularly counsels clients in the use, adoption, and enforcement of trademarks in the United States and abroad, and has successfully negotiated favorable settlements in copyright and trademark infringement matters.

Matt graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1992 with a B.A. in Communications, and in 2005 received his J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center (now University of New Hampshire School of Law), one of the nation’s leading intellectual property law schools. While attending Franklin Pierce, Matt worked as law clerk with the Entertainment Software Association in Washington, D.C., and with the Media and Entertainment practice group at the Boston office Fish & Richardson, P.C.. In 2006, Matt launched Saunders & Silverstein LLP with his partner, Aaron Silverstein.

Matt is admitted to the Massachusetts State Bar and the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He also serves on the Board of Governors of University of New Hampshire radio station WUNH 91.3FM, and is President of the Executive Board of The New Hampshire Theatre Project. He lives in Hampton, New Hampshire with his wife, two daughters, and excitable dog.

  • Aids in trademark strategy and prosecutes domestic and foreign trademark applications for companies in a wide ranger of industries, including scientific devices and footwear.
  • Counsels a leading athletic apparel company in matters of brand selection and enforcement.
  • Negotiated favorable settlements of copyright and trademark infringement matters.
  • Prepares terms of service and privacy policies for clients in social networking, mobile media, and e-commerce enterprises.
  • Negotiates and prepares software license agreements, and master services agreements for web and software development companies.
  • Prosecutes domestic trademark applications on behalf of clients from the United Kingdom and other foreign territories.
